Basketball Art

My mission is to do for basketball what the great painters of the past have done for religion, mythology and history. Capturing the devotion, spiritual experience and larger than life figures through painting. Giving life to the stories and histories through a visual anthology, embellishing fact and creating a visual understanding of the devotion we have dedicated to the game.

Most art related to sport is info-graphic and digital designs. I want to merge Fine Art and Painting with this world to create a long lasting documentation and appreciation for the sport.

Becoming the Mamba // 7 x 4 ft , oil on canvas

A life size painting the one and only Kobe Bryant. This piece emphasizes the mythology behind the moment Kobe Bryant has a vision of his future as the Black Mamba and contemplates his future as he begins to take on this new identity.

Crusade of the Champions: Ode to Golden State // 40 x 50 in , oil on canvas

Combining my passion for art history with my passion of painting basketball. Taking a 16th century religious painting and swapping out the characters, scenes and icons from biblical to basketball. Emphasizing the mythology, and narrative of the history of hoops.

Transcending the Game // 24 x 48 in , oil on canvas

The painting that was the namesake of my 2024 basketball art exhibition. Representing the bridge between sport and religion. The lore behind players and their histories. The way we view these athletes being more than human or godlike. This piece represents my journey of painting basketball in the context of religion and devotion.

Above The Rim Series

One of my favorite compositions in sports based art. Capturing the action from a dynamic above the rim view. Creating unique angle and perspective, exaggerating the action and extending arms. This series gives me the freedom to build these scenes, emphasizing the repeated circles and lines, plugging in or removing players and other elements of the background, creating active and exciting paintings & drawings.

Sculptural / 3D Pieces

In my 2024 exhibition, “Transcending the Game”, I wanted to push themes of divinity and spirituality surrounding the game further than I could with paintings. Everything was conceptualized and made in the span of six months leading up to my show. As a painter, it was one of my first times thinking about making art 3-dimensionally and I really enjoyed it. From floating shoes, to a shattered backboard made of mirror and beach glass I was able to really dive in to drive my ideas home.
